My Magner family came from Waterford and married a Harrington Family from Fermoy, Co Cork. As the story goes ... A John Magner Sr was approached by an Englishman who offered 5 pounds for his horse, John said no and had a duel with him. After the duel, John Sr rode home and told his two sons John Jr and David that Ireland was no place for them and to leave for America. They left with their wives in 1839 or 1840 and arrived in New York in the spring of 1840. They settled in Wellsville N.Y. Both Brothers married Harrington sisters later two other Magner brothers came one named Robert also married a Harrington, and Edmond came and settled in Wellsville. Ten years later Patrick and John Harrington came and settled in the same area. My question is.. what happen to John Sr? I know his wife Margaret came over and settled with her children. Additionally, I was told that our Magners were orginally Moore's.
