> In response to your answer to my Query of November 2000. The Magner I have is Edward Thomas Magner born 6-27-1860 Died 8-18-1936. He married Alice Mae Conrad, born 4-21-1868 died 8-5-37. I have no date for their wedding. They were farmers in Mercer County Pa, located near All Saints
Church. Edward was also a carpenter. He was a violinist, country style, and was much in demand for dances and parties throughout the area. They had five children,

Frances Magner born 7020-1892, Died 9-17-86, married Edward Smith "Ted" Wiesen.

Hellen Eleanor Mager born 1-1-1893 Died 1-22-1959 married Charles Paul Donahue.

John Henry Magner, born 6-3-1895, died 8-31-1967, married Mary Jospehine Dougherty.

Marguerite Magner, Born 8-24-1897 Died 3-17-80, married Myron E. Lee.

Frederick Magner born 1900 date of death unknown, married Barbara English.

Alice Conrad would be the sister of my Grandmother Mary Margaret Conrad. I couldn't find a match in your family trees but maybe I didn't look the right place? I know this family was very influential and a favorite with the entire clan.
Let me know if you are interested in more descendants of these families as I have that information.

> Very interesting site. I would like to invite you to mine as well. It is a military memorial with many names of those who have served our Nation with honor. Maybe (?) there is someone listed that you know. The memorial is always being updated as people submit family members who have served to be added to it. The site is at http://memorialvote.homestead.com/index.html

don't know anything about his mother or father, sisters or brothers. He married a woman born in England named Ann Vicary. I'm going to The Family History Library in Salt Lake City on July 12th and I was wondering if you had any information that could help?

Reply: JAMES MAGNER MARRIED TO SARAH MOONEY
GUILLERMO,
I checked the 1881 England Census but that I guess was after your James & Sarah arrived in Texas, The James & Sarah I found in the England census are listed below and neither seam to apply to your search

1881 Census England
Surname Given, Age, Relation, Census, CO, Parish, Occupation, Head, Born, Parish
Magnier Mary A. 26 Wife, M SUR Newington, Magnier, James V. , -, MID Chelsea

Magnier James V., 26, Head, M, SUR, Newington, Sorter GPO Ir+ Self MID Lambeth

Magner Sarah 22, Wife M MID, Lndn Chels+, - Magner, Thomas, MID Chelsea

This is Immigrations that may apply

1874-75 Im - Magner James Arrived: Louisiana LA - 4981.45 Page 30 California

Oct 25, 1880 Im 29 Magner James Arrived: New Haven CT, from Ireland New Haven CP

Many times a person entered England as their place of birth or Country left during that time period as Ireland was actually governed by England back than.

James Magner born in Ireland, I have perhaps 26 or so prior to 1880, not enough information available so that would just be a wild guess. I show no marriages of James to Sarah in Ireland from my data base
Sorry I could not be of more help .... Luck searching

> My grandfather, the same James Magner RN was born in Clashmore Co.
Waterford on 14 June 1856. He enrolled in the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd
Class at Five Mile Point Coastguard Station, Co. Wicklow on 13 November
1871. He eventually achieved the rank of Commissioned Gunner(T) before being invalided from the Service in !899. He drew his invalid pension for 42 years up to his death in Plymouth UK in 1941.
> All I know for sure of my g-grandfather is that he signed himself 'James Magner - Parent' on Grandad's naval enrolment form.
> Family tradition has it that he was Harbourmaster of Queenstown (Cobh) at dates unknown. I was also told that Grandad returned home on leave after a long foreign commission to be met with the news that his mother had died during his years of absence and his father had already remarried. Son and father subsequently lost touch.
> I am particularly interested in possible confirmation of the Cobh harbourmaster appointment, details of g-grandad's ancestry and any known of his close family connections. G-Grandmother may have been an O'Leary and she had taken charge of her pre-deceased sister's children Mary and Jack Dawson whom Grandad brought back to England on his return from leave.
> Thanks for your interest. Cheers.

JAMES MAGNER, CLASHMORE, CO. WATERFORD.

Jim,

The names of past Harbour Masters of the Port of Cork, as far back as 1820 when their records start, have been checked and there is no James Magner on the list.

It is possible that James Magner was employed "shore-side" in some capacity by the Royal Navy who had a base in Haulbowline, (an island in Cork Harbour, across from Great Island on which Cobh (Queenstown) is situated), until the mid 1930's. If this is the case, the present day James Magner could always try the Public Records Office in Kew, London for information.

Sorry I couldn't find any more information for you.

Best wishes,

Pat

I am looking for information on the parents of Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Magner and his wife Mary E. Williams Roberts Magner. I know that this was a second marriage for Mary and that by her first husband who last name was Roberts that she had the following children: Ozzie and an M. Roberts Neal. Then her and Frank had Florence and Harve. Any and all information would be appreciated.

Thank you for all your Magner information.

I have checked out the Family Tree of Magner/Hennessy. But it is a generation ahead of where I need to look.

The only reason I said "Banshee", Tipperary, was it is written on the death certificate of John Hennessy as his birth place, (possibly mid 1820's) and the person writing it NE Victoria, AUS, probably had no idea where it was. His mother is listed as Mary Hennessy formerly Magner. His father John Hennessy is listed as Farmer.

Magner Misc:
I received the death records for:
James Magner living at 136 Daniel's Avenue Pittsfield, MA.
Died September 08, 1910, age 55
St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield, MA.
No spouse listed, railroad switchman, died at work, born Pittsfield
Fathers name Arthur Magner, Mother Catherine Morey
Born MA.

and

James J. Magner living at 65 Richmond Avenue, Pittsfield, MA.
Died January 29, 1920, age 70, so born circa: 1850
No spouse listed retired, born Ireland.
St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield, MA.
Father John Magner, Mother Honora Leonard
Arrival date not listed on death record

I have nothing for sure in my databases for this John and Honora Magner. There was a Honora Magner leasing a home and garden in Rockmills, Ireland in 1851, same location (different address) as John Magner my gg-grandfather was in 1863. By 1855 the house was described as "in ruins" and there was no listing for Honora. Lease information does not give ages, others living there, etc.

On another front I located a James Magner age 30, labor, that arrived from Ireland to New York on 8 October 1879

Checking my Naturalization (Index) database for James in New England area [that fit the dates and ages]

Area State Court Date NA. Age Specifics
New Haven CT New Haven CP 25 October 1880 29 Vol. 1, Under 18
