He was born in County Cork Ireland and was a jockey for some years, he later moved to a small village called Rainford in the north west of the UK. He married a woman called Stella Hall and had two children namely Tracey Anne Magnier and Melvin Magnier. He has several brothers and sisters, one of which is called Peggy who came to Rainford with one of her sisters, her name is unknown. His father was called David and mother possibly called Mary but that has not been confirmed If you think you know how I can contact Peggy or if you know any of Jimmy’s brothers or sisters could you get in touch, thanks Sarah Magnier-Ashton, grand daughter of Jimmy Magnier.

Am doing a family history on the Gilliatt clan and have some additional information for your tree:

Russell Magner married Zula Ruth Weeks on 27 November 1918 in Orange County, Indiana. Their children were: Leonard, another son (name unknown), and Leland (born in 1919 and died 29 July 1975)

Zula's parents were: Lucy Margaret Gilliatt (B: 23 March 1869 and died 19 July 1954 in French Lick, Indiana) and Caswell Leonard Weeks (B: 7 October 1868 and died 10 February 1959, also in Orange County, Indiana) They were married October 1880 in Orange County, Indiana
Caswell's parents were: Willis Weeks and Sarah Leonard.

This information comes from the bible and family records of Connie Webb of Needham, IN, who has a history of the descendants of Lucy Margaret Gilliatt.

Sincerely, DeAnne Gilliat Hays (Durham, NC)

Jim, have you ever come across this information that might connect the family to your family?

A William Gallagher married a Mary Magnier/Magner in Kildorrery on February 1, 1894, with John Foley and Mary Fouhy as sponsors.

I am making progress on my Gallagher families - two of them. It is so interesting to see families living almost next door to family that later became connected to mine. As an example, James Kenny married V. Ann Carroll in Kildorrery, Cork. Their son Dennis, my grandfather, married Annie Gallagher, daugther of John Gallagher and Ellen Roche. The Carrolls were from Kildorrery and the Gallaghers - one family from Glanworth parish and another from Ballynoulty, Kildorrery. They never met that we know of in Ireland.

James Kenny's oldest daughter married Tom Hannigan of Darragh, Limerick. They were married in the parish of Glenroe and Ballyorgan. John Gallagher was probably baptized in the same parish since his father, of Ballynoulty, left Cork and settled in Houndscourt, Limerick. So I am still tracing the Ballynoulty, Kildorrery, Gallaghers because that is their origin, at least as far back as 1700, and I am now looking into Houndscourt, Limerick records.

John Gallagher, mentioned above, had a brother Michael of Houndscourt. He too married a Roche from Glanworth. They settled back in the Kildorrery parish. So I am trying to follow their family. I would actually like to find a living descendant.

The above William is either one of Michael's sons or one of the Glanworth Gallaghers. I lean toward the former, but there were Fouhys mixed in with the Glanworth family.

Just thought I would check.....

"MANNINGHAM-MAGNER

The wedding of Miss Emily Manningham of 355 Lebanon avenue, daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. J. T. Manningham of Quebec, Canada, to Charles Francis Magner of 828 upper Barkerville road, took place this morning at 8o’clock at St. Mark’s church. Rev. Martin J. Tracey performed the ceremony. Miss Eleanor Eagan presided at the organ. The attendants were Mr. And Mrs. John Manger, brother and sister-in-law of the bridegroom. The bride wore a gown of henna crepe-de-chine, a hat in harmony, and a corsage of Ophelia roses. The matron of honor was attired in navy blue crepe-de-chine, a hat to match, and a corsage of American Beauty roses. A wedding breakfast followed at Hotel Wendell. Mr. And Mrs. Manger will be at home after October 15 at 828 upper Barkerville road. The bride who is a native of Canada has spent the last two years in this city. She has been employed as a nurse. The bridegroom is a veteran of the American-Spanish war. Most of his life has been spent in this city. He is custodian of the United States Post Office. The couple presented their attendants with gold pieces. The bridegroom gave his bride a pearl necklace."

Observations: Marriage had to be after 1914 because both parents had died.

Marie-Emile Manningham was born at 3:00 AM on Thursday January 20, 1887 at Ste Julie de Somerset, Quebec, Canada the daughter of John Thompson Manningham/Monaghan and Anastasie Couture. She was a nurse in a TB camp possibly in Pittburg, Pennsylvania.

Hi Jim:

Thank you for your response to my message, and providing me with the information submitted by Taryn M. Brinson. I see she is looking for Itasca Snow Magner, born Poplar Bluff, Missouri, in 1883, and I do believe that the Itasca Magner that I referred to is the same person. This would mean that the Blanch Magner, born in Indiana, was Itasca's mother. I don't know who Blanch Magner's husband was.

I am really a League researcher, and have been on the trail of Archie William League. He was the son of Archean (Archie) League and Itasca Snow Magner League.

It appears Blanch Magner's husband, ????? Magner, passed away prior to 1910. This family is shown in the 1910 Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri census. Blanch Magner is shown as the head of household, age 47, a widow, living on Main Street, born Indiana, father and mother both born in Indiana. Her occupation is shown as a seamstress. (I suspect her husband was Archean League.)

Thank you,

Bob Portsche

Looking for a
Magner family that was in Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri, about 1880. The husband passed away by 1910. The widow, Blanch Magner, born Indiana, was 47 years old in 1910, thus birth year of about 1863. They had a daughter named Itasca, born about 1884 in Missouri.

Their daughter Itasca married a man named Archean (Archie) League. Archie League and his wife Itasca, were living in Poplar Bluff with Blanch
Magner as the head of the household.

Would apprciate any information. Bob Portsche

This would be great if you were related. I have never seen anybody do such a great job on a web site.  I am so impressed.

As Far as I can tell: Family roots  Magner   in    Ireland   Town Castletown  Berehaven  area 1860  to sometime before birth of 1st child Catherine 1882 Salem Ma

I did come accross connections between  two Walsh sisters and Gallagher.   My Grandfather's cemetery plot is shared by Family of Bessie Gallagher .  This is located in Salem Mass I know that my great grandfather  was a coachman in Ireland who fell in love with employer's daughter and left for America.  I  I don't have dates or locations of weddings or arrival in the US

Pat, I was reading you David Magner information on the Walsh Board

Was David born in Ireland and if so - do you know his date of arrival? A David Magner arrived in 1880 with my g-grandfather Thomas Magner along with a John Magner, who I cannot account for either. We have verbal history of a brother "going off to the Boston area" but have never been able to locate him.

Also I have been researching an Ellen Walsh that married John Magner at Oldcastletown, Cork about 1830. I am searching two set of children for the same John Magner of Cork

Thank you,
