> Hello.  I'm doing background research on my birth name (Mother's side). Her name was Dorothy Magner.  She lived in Hingham, MA.  Her father's name was William, her mother's name was Delia (?), and she had one brother.  She went to Hingham High School and (may have) married Walter Finn.  She died in the 1980s or 90s.

> Hi Magn (i)er's

> I relate to a grandfather Daniel Magner who found that Magnier was the original name of French derivation (or so he thought) and so changed it after arriving in the U.S.   I do not see any Daniel’s in your interesting genealogy but should you know of any I would surely be interested.

Hi Jim,

Great to have come upon your fine website and such a full rundown of the mutual name.  It is far more than I had ever heard re. It from a family quite interested in its history and derivation.

My grandfather Daniel must have come over in the 1850's.   He had 7 children that lived, Viz. Mary, Dave (?), Nell (Helen prob.), Alexander, Katherine, Jane and Daniel (my father).  He (I think) married a Gallagher (quite unsure), daughter in a long time US resident family, who died when I was very young.  How foolish we were not to get it all down on paper.

From the 7 in my father's generation, I, and my one son Mark, are the only ones in the line carrying the name.   I also have a daughter Thames.   My Dad was a social guy and may have tried to contact you while you were in New Jersey back in the 70's.

Again, very much appreciate the contact and would also like any info you have that looks like it might tie in with the line.  I will be checking out the family trees that you have listed on your website in detail for similar clues. Forgot to add that we have, excluding my off spring, have been in NYC since the beginning.

  Very Best, Dan Magnier
